ComSci's comprehensive IT Financial and Business Management™ Solution (ITFBM) provides IT Executives with the information necessary to run IT like a business. Our integrated suite of services and technology provides clients with visibility into the cost drivers associated with delivering IT Products and Services as well as the utilization metrics to understand the cost and ROI of consumption-based business drivers and demand management.

ComSci has developed a scalable production process and web-based reporting tool that provides IT and business unit managers with the line of sight required to effectively understand and control consumption. ComSci integrates data from operational, financial and organizational systems turning disparate data into actionable information such as IT Budgets/Forecasts, Product/Service Cost Pools, Unit Costing, Consumption Metrics, etc.

Getting Started

Realizing that most firms do not have all the data required to implement a total ITFBM process, ComSci's solution is designed to assist firms at all varying levels of the ITFBM maturity curve. The important first step to building a solid IT Financial and Business Management™ process is getting started with whatever data is currently available. Some organizations start with a high-level top-down approach and utilize key assumptions to begin quantifying Business Unit Demand or the Cost of their IT Products and Services. Other companies commence their ITFBM initiative with a specific set of IT Products and Services (e.g., End User Computing) and expand as the information from operational processes and systems becomes more accurate and available. Getting started with the data you have not only increases the value of the current data but also identifies the other areas where the data is less prevalent or accurate.

Achieve Immediate Value - Cost Savings

The majority of ComSci clients achieve savings shortly after implementation because our recommended process - even with only a subset of the data - highlights specific areas for cost optimization and reduction. For example, one ComSci client started with End User Computing services. Within six months, they were able to reduce EUC costs by 18% through identification of software license fees and maintenance that were not longer required.

Start Somewhere

The important thing to remember is that you need to start somewhere. In the previous example, our client was able to achieve immediate cost savings. In this instance, as additional IT Products and Services were incorporated into the ComSci ITFBM solution, every step toward increased maturity resulted in exponentially greater value, affording IT Executives with clarity into costs. As a result, they gained opportunities for additional savings and enhanced decision-making capabilities.

Suggested Areas to Start:

  • Create a Shadow Bill of IT for "show-back" - ComSci can assist in providing pricing assumptions as the most important initiative is to provide the Business Units with visibility into their consumption of IT Products and Services
  • One Service or Group of Services - Drill-down into one category of IT products and Services - this area alone will generate initial savings. Equally important, it is an opportunity to receive the benefits of the ComSci solution with minimal start-up efforts. One area where clients start is Telecom Chargeback and/or mobile spend.

At ComSci, we're committed to providing our clients with a platform to build upon as they progress through the journey towards an effective IT Financial and Business Management process.
